Mark Burns for Congress
John Mark Burns (born September 21, 1979) is a Husband, Father, Man of God, Veteran, Overcomer and A TRUE PATRIOT. As a South Carolina native, Mark’s vision is to bring the nation closer together by unifying ALL Americans through addressing the needs of everyone, especially those who are struggling. His favorite slogan, which he chanted in front of a world-wide audience at the 2016 Republican National Convention is: “The only colors that matter are the Red, White and Blue.”
Despite his humble beginnings his parents, Otis and Debra Burns, taught that life is not fair but with God’s favor you can overcome. Not being the tallest or the slimmest in most settings, he learned early in life how cruel people could be. It wasn’t until later in life that he came to understand how environmental trauma at a young age can affect how one makes decisions as an adult.
“We’ve got to stop being African-American or Hispanic-American. We’ve got to just start seeing ourselves as Americans.”
In 2009 his desire to be accepted led him to his greatest regret and lowest point in life, but through the grace of GOD, it was also the highest point in life. On a website, in 2009, Mark embellished/lied about his accomplishments as it related to graduating from North Greenville University and being a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. Later, in 2016, as he supported the current President of the United States of America, this mistake led to personal attacks from all sides.
In 2016, on CNN, Mark was attacked in front of a national audience and was painted as one that lacked character, integrity and accomplishments. While this was a difficult time in his life the voice of his parents said to remember God’s Favor. At that moment he experienced the highest point of his life when he realized that GOD had made him and that alone qualified him to be accepted.
In 1998 Pastor Burns received his GED from the South Carolina Board of Education and later attended North Greenville University. He was ordained as a pastor at Traveler’s Baptist Church in Seneca, SC in 2005. He is a true servant that has given 6 years of his life to his country as a member of the South Carolina Army National Guard and serving God through The Harvest Praise & Worship Center. THPWC is a multicultural, non-denominational contemporary church founded with his wife Tomarra.
In 2015, Pastor Burns expanded his passion for service and motivated others by becoming the Co-Founder and CEO of the NOW Television Network, a Christian television network based out of South Carolina. He is also the executive producer and host of the “Lift Your Voice Show”.
Pastor Burns’ dedication to helping all Americans stems from his experiences of being a struggling American, determined to achieve his goals through upward mobility. Burns knows what it is like to live through setbacks due to financial hardship. He knows the challenges of having to navigate with a suspended license, the pain of having a car repossessed and the struggle of having to ride a bicycle to a minimum wage paying job. His promise is to implement programs that will assist Americans in reaching their true potential. Everyone deserves to live the American Dream, as he highlighted in his “All Lives Matter” speech at the 2016 Republican National Convention that has inspired the world.
“We all make mistakes, and I hope that the measure of my character and the quality of my works speak for what kind of person I am.”
